Jonathan Pearce: QUICK FIX NEEDED FOR FAST BOWLERS.

Byline: Jonathan Pearce

WHY are there so many injury doubts lingering over England's fast bowlers ahead of the West Indies tour?

Former coach Bob Cottam has no doubts. "They don't bowl enough," he told me. "Too many prefer to spend time in the gym rather than bowling in the nets. Kids of 12 are restricted to spells of four overs these days. How can they ever get used to the demands of bowling in Test matches?"

England needs to sort this problem out for the long term. More immediately, Cottam believes we have the paciest quartet anywhere in Test cricket if they remain fit.

They need to be firing on all cylinders given Brian Lara's form in South Africa where he plundered a big double century and another ton in the recent series. If England's attack can dominate him, then a famous series victory can be theirs, because the Windies have nothing to worry our batsmen.
