Jonathan Pearce: Pat Rice.

Byline: Jonathan Pearce

WITH all the pre-match debate concentrating on whether Roy Keane would be playing in his sixth FA Cup Final yesterday, I found my thoughts drifting to a hero of five finals who seems to have been overlooked in all the glowing tributes to Arsenal's historic season.

Pat Rice, who lifted the Cup twice during his 650-game Gunners career, has dedicated 34 years to his club and since 1996 has been Arsene Wenger's right-hand man.

Too many gongs are sprinkled around cheaply to football in the honours lists. Next time the awards are handed out, I hope this honourable, knowledgeable and likeable man is not overlooked.
