John snubs Bridgend.

Byline: Simon Thomas

GERAINT John has turned down Bridgend and decided to stay with Cardiff, writes Simon Thomas.

Bridgend wanted John to become their new head coach and were ready to hand him a three-year contract.

But he has chosen to remain at the Arms Park as backs coach and assistant to director of rugby Rudy Joubert.

I understand that John informed Bridgend of his decision yesterday afternoon.

The former fly-half has 16 months to run on his contract with the Blue & Blacks, who would have had to agree to release him in order for him to move to the Brewery Field.

John had talks with Cardiff chairman Peter Thomas last week and has now confirmed that his future lies at the Arms Park.

This leaves Bridgend having to start their search for a new head coach from scratch.

Their plan was for John to take up the reins, with the man currently at the helm on the coaching front, his namesake Dennis John, remaining at the club as director of rugby.
