John David Louy 1973-2007.

ST. PETERSBURG, FL John David Louy, 33, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2007. John was born in November 1973 at the US Naval Hospital, Port Hueneme, CA. He received his primary education in Pensacola, FL at St. Paul Catholic School and Washington High School. He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY where he graduated with high honors as a Marine Engineer, and a commission as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. He attained the rank of Lieutenant. John worked as a field service engineer for GE Power Systems in Tampa, FL then pursued his career as a marine engineer achieving the qualification of First Assistant Engineer. He was within 100 sailing days of achieving Chief Engineer qualification. John achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in Pensacola Troop 403 under the leadership of scoutmasters David L. Roark and Carl Jensen. John was a member of the Washington High swim team, and was captain of the USMMA swim team. John was active in skydiving, scuba diving, snowboarding, windsurfing, and all Frisbee sports. He was highly accomplished in auto mechanics and home remodeling.

John is survived by his parents, Lt. Cmdr. Michael S. Louy and Susan Lacaire Louy; and siblings: Catherine Louy, Christine and Jeff McGowan, Stephen and Paul Louy.

A family rosary will be said at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel at 4:30 p.m on Thursday, April 12, 2007 with visitation following from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Paul Catholic Church on Hyde Park Road at 11:00 a.m Friday, April 13, 2007 with Fr. Doug Halsema celebrant. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gulf Coast Council of the Boy Scouts of America. HARPER - MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Pensacola, FL is in charge of arrangements.
