John D. Dienes elected President of United Companies.

BATON ROUGE, La.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 1995--John D. Dienes has recently been elected President of United Companies Financial Corporation, a $2 billion nationwide financial services concern (NASDAQ:UCFC).

Dienes replaces as President J. Terrell Brown, who was promoted to Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. Brown, in turn, replaced Harris J. Chustz, who has elected to retire.

Dienes has previously served as Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Executive Committee of UCFC since joining the Corporation in 1994. In addition, Dienes also serves as President of UCFC's wholesale lending subsidiaries (Unicor Mortgage, Inc., Ginger Mae, Inc., and Southern Mortgage Acquisition Corp.) and directs all activities for UCFC's securitization conduit.

Prior to joining UCFC in 1994, Dienes gained three decades' experience in the financial industry, having most recently served as Corporate Executive Vice President & Director of Corporate Banking for NationsBank Corporation -- the third largest bank holding company in the U.S. -- where he also had nationwide responsibility for special industries, financial institutions and financial services.

Dienes began his career with Republic National Bank of Dallas in 1964. Dienes participated in the 1988 merger of Republic and InterFirst National Bank, and was elected a Managing Director of the successor corporation, FirstRepublic Bank, at that time the largest banking company in Texas. In 1989, FirstRepublic was acquired by NCNB Corp., which went on to become NationsBank.

Active in industry and civic endeavors, Dienes has served as chairman of the Corporate Banking Division of the American Bankers Association, and on the boards of Payless Cashways Corp., 3 Beall Brothers 3, Dallas Biomedical Corp., and the Texas Superconducting Super Collider Authority.

He is a past member of the Board of Councillors for the University of Texas at Dallas and the Associate Board of Southern Methodist University (SMU). In addition, he has served on the boards of the Dallas Chamber of Commerce, the Dallas Ambassador's Forum; and is a past director of the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and Junior Achievement in Dallas.

He is active in the Salesmanship Club of Dallas, National Asthma Association, St. Paul Foundation, Boy Scouts, United Way, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Symphony Association, Dallas Science Museum and St. Mark's School of Texas.

A native of Mer Rouge, La., Dienes holds a bachelors degree from Louisiana Tech University, a masters of business administration degree in finance from SMU, and is a graduate of the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking. He served six years in the U.S. Air National Guard.
