Joh. Barth releases Finest Harvest Edition.
Joh. Barth & Sohn has announced the release of the Finest Harvest Edition Hops for 2014. Crop year 2014 is the second year in which Barth is processing a "Finest Harvest Edition" of selected varieties. The varieties this year are Mittelfrueh, Perle, Tradition, Select, Saaz, Herbruck and Saphir. According to the company, due to their high oil content and aromatic qualities these hops are perfect for dry hopping. "Finest Harvest Edition is to hops what the grands crus are to Bordeaux wines," said Dr. Elisabeth Wiesen, technical manager with Joh. Barth. "Selected growers harvest varieties that are popular for dry hopping in selected hop gardens. Barth then processes these hops within two weeks to preserve their fresh aroma. That is the principle of the Finest Harvest Edition."
"The advantages for the brewers are obvious: the oil content is higher, the hops are bagged virtually harvest-fresh and so the aroma has a particularly fresh character," added Thomas Raiser, head of sales at Joh. Barth & Sohn. "The Finest Harvest Edition varieties are therefore ideally suited for dry hopping."
For every kilogram of FHE 2014 sold, Barth is donating one euro to the Barth Foundation for Dyslexia and Dyscalculia.
