Joel Whitaker takes over as new owner and publisher of NL/NL.

Joel Whitaker of Whitaker Newsletters Inc., Spencerville, Maryland, has acquired The Newsletter on Newsletters from Marlene Jensen and Paul Swift, who owned it, d.b.a. The Newsletter on Newsletters LLC.

Last summer Marlene earned a Ph.D. in marketing and has since accepted a faculty position at the University of Pennsylvania's Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania. She will continue working with NL/NL in a consulting capacity. She may be reached at

Longtime editor Paul Swift will remain as editor of the newsletter in offices in Rhine-beck, New York. Whitaker said that Swift will continue to run the publication "autonomously."

NL/NL was founded in Chicago in 1964 and acquired in 1968 by newsletter legend Howard Penn Hudson, who used it as a base for helping organize the newsletter industry, including his influential role in founding what is now the Specialized Information Publishers Association. Hudson published NL/NL for the rest of the 20th century.
