Joe agrees Munich deal.

Byline: By Miles Starforth

Newcastle United's Joe Kendrick will jet out to Germany this week after agreeing a three-year contract with Bundesliga side 1860 Munich.

The Republic of Ireland Under-20 international, told last month that he would not be receiving another contract at United, will fly to Munich on Sunday for a medical.

Kendrick, a left-back, had been a regular for Newcastle's reserves this season having come up through the ranks at the club's academy.

But while fellow Dubliner and right-back Stephen Brennan was handed a new contract, Kendrick just missed out and the Chronicle revealed last month 1860 Munich's interest in him.

After a successful trial at Third Division Hartlepool United, Magpies chief scout Charlie Woods fixed up another at 1860 Munich and the 19-year-old impressed the Germans.

Kendrick's agent Mark Bennett said: "This opportunity is almost too good to be true for Joe. It's a great opportunity for him.

"The people there have made Joe very welcome and he's very excited about what's ahead of him.

"He's going to learn a different kind of football and a new language."

The likes of Davor Suker and Thomas Hassler play for 1860 Munich, who faced Newcastle in the Intertoto Cup in the 2001/02 campaign when United won 3-2 in Germany and 3-1 at home.

And Kendrick has been told they expect him to be pushing for a first-team place at the Olympic Stadium in around six to nine months time once he has settled into the club.
