Joe Ortlieb reacquires rights to Ortlieb brand.
Joe Ortlieb, former owner of the Ortlieb Brewing Co., has reacquired the rights to Ortlieb's Beer. The brand had been sold to the Schmidt Brewery more than ten years ago."Ortlieb's still has a loyal following," Joe Ortlieb said, "and it is still produced in small quantities."
Ortlieb said that he plans to sell his beer to people who are "like myself...gray, overweight and slightly slower afoot."
He said that he will fund an advertising campaign to attract this older demographic. "Reimel and Carter, a Philadelphia Advertising Agency, researched this demographic and have determined that this group from 40-65 is a vital source of beer consumers," Ortlieb said. "However, younger and slimmer drinkers will not be turned away." The Ortlieb Brewing Co. is currently based in Drexel, PA. Tel: (610) 259-9896.
