Jobs joy as lighting firm relocates to North East; MANUFACTURING.


ALIGHTING company has secured a PS350,000 grant allowing it to relocate to the North East and create 35 new jobs.

BSS LED ltd manufactures commercial and industrial LED lighting, which use up to 65% less energy than regular lighting and feature reduced heat output and zero lamp maintenance.

Now the business is growing its operations by relocating from Manchester to Cramlington, Northumberland, after investing in new manufacturing equipment which will lead to the creation of 35 new jobs with the help of a grant from The Northumberland Business Growth Programme.

Arch, The Northumberland Development Company, in conjunction with Northumberland County Council was awarded PS11.75m from the Government's Regional Growth Fund (RGF) to deliver the programme that provides financial support to businesses across Northumberland to encourage the creation of new sustainable jobs and the safeguarding of existing jobs.

The grant has led to the company setting up a base in Nelson Park, Cramlington, giving it the opportunity to bring manufacturing inhouse, to take full control of quality assurance and simultaneously introduce a range of cutting-edge LED Lighting Products.

BSS LED's managing director, Steve Bell said: "We began 2014 by moving into new premises in Cramlington and this relocation will mark the next chapter for BSS.

"We are grateful to Arch, The Northumberland Development Company for helping us realise this opportunity. The LED lighting industry is very fast moving and driven by the need to develop and deliver high-quality products.

"This new investment enables us to make a step change in how we move forward in meeting these demands."
