Job prospects.

Hundreds of jobs could be created in the community of Attawapiskat in the James Bay Lowlands following the discovery of diamonds in the area. De Beers . Canada Exploration Inc. recently admitted to finding diamonds in the area and are in the process of determing whether or not they have found a minable deposit.

Officials say if De Beers begins mining the area, it will have economic advantages to the First Nations community through training and jobs at the mine site. Attawapiskat First Nation and De Beers signed a memorandum of understanding in late 1999.

De Beers has been conducting a feasibility study on the potential for a diamond mine in the area, including an evaluation of core sampling, and expect results by the end of 2001.
