JoAnn R. Detarando.

STURBRIDGE JoAnn R. (Russo) Detarando, 62, of 32 Bentwood Drive, died on Friday, February 9, 2007 at home, surrounded by her family, after a long courageous battle with cancer. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she leaves her husband of 40 years, Anthony M. Detarando; three children: Lynne Detarando Grden and her husband Paul of Shrewsbury, Anthony J. Detarando and his wife Alicia of Charlton, and Michael A. Detarando and his wife Elizabeth of Sturbridge and four precious grandchildren: Marisa and Anthony Detarando of Charlton, Matthew Grden of Shrewsbury and Michael Detarando of Sturbridge. She also leaves her beloved Mother, Mary P. Russo of Gloversville, NY; two siblings: Santo Russo, Jr. of Gloversville, NY and Debora Russo Peretsman and husband Samuel of Charlotte, NC, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

JoAnn was born on June 12, 1944 in Gloversville, New York, the daughter of Santo and Mary (Papa) Russo. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School and the Nathan Litteaur Laboratory School. She was a member of the Harrington Hospital Auxiliary and devoted many hours volunteering at the hospital. She was also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi. Sorority. She also cherished her roles as wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. JoAnn touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew her.

JoAnn's funeral will be held on Monday, Feb. 12th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton Street, Southbridge, with a Mass at 10:00am in Notre Dame Church, 446 Main St., Southbridge. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Sunday, Feb. 11th, from 1:00 to 3:00 and 6:00 to 8:00pm.
