Jim Sinkinson voted into NEPA Hall of Fame, Barbara Kaplowitz named Volunteer of the Year.

James Sinkinson, publisher, Emeryville, Calif.-based Infocom Group, was inducted into the NEPA Hall of Fame at a luncheon in which his popularity in the association was underscored by not one but two standing ovations. Moisture filled his eyes.

In addition to publishing seven newsletters in the fields of public relations (including Western and Eastern editions of the $439/year Bulldog Reporter), advertising law, and real estate, Sinkinson is a widely respected copywriter who has written dozens of direct mail packages for fellow newsletter publishers.

On top of that--and a principal criterion for being voted into the Hall of Fame--he has served NEPA in innumerable positions, including a frequent conference speaker on direct marketing, member of the board of directors from 1987 to 1996, and president in 1993-94. He has also single-handedly held together the NEPA Northern California chapter.

Volunteer of the Year

Another NEPA workhorse and perennial conference speaker, Barbara Weckstein Kaplowitz, was named NEPA Volunteer of the Year.

Among her many contributions to the association is her chairing of the Marketing Special Working Group, in which capacity she developed and maintains the especially lively marketing listserv.

Kaplowitz, who worked for 11 years as marketing director and group publisher at UCG, is a principal of Big Huge Ideas, a full-service marketing agency in Potomac, Maryland. She's also publisher of Between the Covers, a consumer newsletter for readers of romance fiction.
