Jennifer finally meets her match in a duff baddie; THE CELL (18).

WHAT man wouldn't want Jennifer Lopez inside his head? That's the basic plot of The Cell, an over-the-top special effects thriller that boasts state of the art images, but not much else.

Any one of her music videos has more depth.

Take away the over-ripe visuals and you're left with a poor man's Silence Of The Lambs.

Playing the Clarice Starling part is Jennifer Lopez, a child psychologist who has to enter the mind of a watered-down Hannibal Lecter, serial killer Carl Stargher (Vincent D'Onofrio ).

Stargher has murdered seven times and has kidnapped an eighth victim. Each time he tortures them, then puts them in "the cell," a plastic cube that fills with water and drowns the victim.

The problem is that he goes into an irreversible coma, leaving police helpless to find his latest victim - that is, of course, unless Lopez's character can root around his mind to find the location of the cell.

Encouraged by FBI agent Peter Novak (Vince Vaughn), she takes the plunge.

The Cell is a stunner to watch - it's chock-full of images that linger in your mind and leave a disturbing impression.

But the rest of the film takes a backseat to what we see on screen. The movie starts well, fizzing with energy and ideas, but it rapidly winds down into pretty standard serial-killer fare, depressingly short on suspense and shock. RATING 6
