The Information Technology Federation of Japan has certified FeliCa Pocket Marketing Inc and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank as so-called information banks.

The certification, the first of its kind, is based on government guidelines and is intended to allow companies to use personal data for business purposes while protecting privacy. There is no need to obtain the federation's endorsement to commercialise personal data. However, the certification will increase of companies' credibility as safe data providers.
