Janet 'Jan' Gray of Chester.

Janet 'Jan' Gray, 67, of Chester, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Integrity Healthcare in Columbia, Illinois.

She was born to Nathaniel Lewis and Dorothy Jean (nee Lochhead) Gray on April 22, 1950 in Milwaukie, Wisconsin.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church in Chester, Illinois and had worked as a substitute teacher, a teacher's aide and a caregiver.

Jan attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska.

She went to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco more than a dozen times and got to know some of the headliners, like Emmylou Harris and many more of that ilk on a first-name basis. Her mother worked many years for the festival founder Warren Hellman, so Jan sat in front of the same stage (banjo stage) in Golden Gate Park and also had access to the side stage where she met them.

Jan loved her nieces, nephews and their children and she love to play bingo.

Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Jean Gray; 3 siblings, Nancy Augustine, Ned Gray and Sally Hauer; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel Lewis Gray; grandfather, Marshall Brown Lochhead; and grandmother, Adeline Crittenden Lochhead.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, Illinois, with Pastor Faye Edmiaston officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Chester.

Visitation will be Friday from noon-2 p.m. Pechacek-McClure Funeral Home, Chester, Illinois.
