James party through the night before; REVIEW: James 02 ACADEMY.

THE venue may be smaller than recent James tours but there was no reduction in the enthusiasm from either band or audience.

Lead singer Tim Booth was enjoying the gig so much he frequently left off his elfin dancing to descend to the floor and be as close to fans as possible.

A two-hour set took us through a host of classics such as Sit Down, Ring the Bells and Fred Astaire plus new material from recent mini albums The Night Before and The Morning After.

Tim said they had recently been working through their back catalogue and were keen to play material they had not perfRormed for years. And, whipping out a sheet of paper, he admitted he had yet to relearn the lyrics to Lost A Friend so he would have to read them. Ever ones for a grand finale, an encore of God Only Knows, Tomorrow and Laid sent the fans into a frenzy and ensured all left happy. VERDICT:
