James Phelps Retz

The Prudential Connecticut Realty recently appointed James Phelps Retz (photo), as vice president, fine homes division. Retz is responsible for the continued development of the division including the expansion of luxury marketing services. He has extensive knowledge of luxury and resort property marketing developed during his 19-year real estate career.

Until recently, Retz was, vice president and regional manager for LandVest, a Boston-based firm specializing in the marketing of luxury real estate and land management. In addition to being a co-founder of the Park Avenue office and developing affiliate networks throughout the Tri-State region, he was responsible for many of the company's largest sales.

Prior to joining LandVest, Retz was executive vice president of Sotheby's International Realty. His responsibilities included opening new offices in Beverly Hills, Newport Beach, San Francisco and Denver, as well as administering both regional and corporate staffs. From 1972 to 1984, he held several senior level positions with Previews Inc., including vice president of the Western division where he oversaw the Los Angeles, San Francisco, Portland, Scottsdale and Honolulu offices.

He has been directly involved with the sale of some of North America's finest estates, and represented such notables as Presidents Ronald Reagan and Jose Lopez-Portillo, Gene Hackman, Julie Andrews Edwards, James Stewart, John Z. DeLorean, Barbara Hutton, and Robert Redford.

Retz is an active member of the National Association of Realtors as well as the International Real Estate Federation (F.I.A.B.C.I.) where he is the President-elect for the New York Council in 1992.
