Jake meets an Olympic idol at open event.

YOUNG Jake Farnham bumped into an Olympic legend yesterday when he came face to face with Seb Coe at the launch of London 2012 Open Weekend.

The nine-year-old, from Pontypridd, who is part of the Valleys Kids Youth Theatre, posed with the former 1500m Olympic gold medallist and South African trumpeter Claude Deppar in Trafalgar Square.

The Open Weekend, which takes place from July 24 to 26, is a series of events across Britain enabling access to excellence in the arts, culture and sport designed to celebrate the fact there are three years to go until the London Games.

The Valleys Kids group, from the Rhondda, is taking part in Operation Zulu, which aims to create a large-scale cross-cultural community play, inspired by the classic film Zulu.

The creative project will link the two communities of the Valleys and Langa Township in Cape Town, and they will be performing in both Africa and Wales in 2012. The Welsh venue will be the Pop Factory in Porth.
