Jail term of man who caused bomb scare reduced.
FUJAIRAH -- The Fujairah Court of Appeal on Tuesday reduced the jail term of a man for causing a bomb scare in a hotel from six months to three months.
Presiding Judge Abdullah Al Salami found the convict, an Asian who worked at the same hotel, guilty of lodging a false report and disturbing the public order. He will be deported to his home country after serving the jail term.
According to the court records, the police received a call from an Asian man who claimed there was a bomb in a hotel. A police task force immediately moved to the hotel and after searching the facility, no bomb was found. The caller was arrested after thorough search and investigation.
On interrogation, he said he made the call out of his desire to get his services terminated from the hotel and return home.
He was referred to the Public Prosecution, which accused him of lodging false report and disturbing the public order. He was sent to the Fujairah Court of First Instance, which sentenced him to six months in jail to be followed by deportation. The accused was not content with the verdict and contested it at the Court of Appeal. The latter reduced the jail term and ordered his deportation. -- firstname.lastname@example.org
