Jacob elected to A-B Board of Directors

John Jacob, president and chief executive officer of the National Urban League, Inc., was recently elected to the board of directors of Anheuser-Busch Cos., Inc.

"John Jacob brings to our board tremendous insight into social issues that face our industry and our nation," said August Busch III, chairman and president of Anheuser-Busch. "We are happy that he has agreed to join us."

Jacob, 56, held a number of positions with the Washington, D.C., and San Diego Urban Leagues before assuming leadership of the national organization in 1982. His weekly newspaper column, "To Be Equal," is distributed to more than 600 newspapers nationwide. He also serves as chairman of the board of trustees at Howard University and also serves on the boards of such companies as Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc., and the New York Telephone Co.

A native of Houston, TX, Jacob received his undergraduate and master of social work degrees from Howard University. He also holds honorary degrees from Howard and a number of other schools.

Jacob has filled a vacancy on the Anheuser-Busch board left by the death of Walter Reisinger. His appointment to the board took effect immediately, and will expire in April, 1993.
