Jackie's pounds 10,000 joy.

A TRIO of friends from Bromsgrove raised pounds 10,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society with fund-raising events ranging from hair shaves to whisky tasting.

Mum-of-two Jackie Turpin, aged 48, was diagnosed with the condition in 2002, but vowed to raise as much cash as possible to help fund research into the illness.

With the help of husband, Anthony, and friend, Yvonne Robson, she has now received so many donations that the total has been pushed over five figures.

Blues Brothers and Elvis tribute acts, talks on wine and beer, car boot sales and tombolas have all helped their campaign along.

The giant cheque was received on behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society by newsreader Suzanne Virdee.

Anthony Turpin, a gardener for Birmingham City Council, said: "Ever since Jackie was diagnosed with MS we wanted to do all we could to help research and to fund specialised local nurses.

"We are now going to keep up the fund raising."
