JUNE '93 DESIGNATED 'NATIONAL ICED TEA MONTH'
NEW YORK, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing the United States as the world leader in drinking iced tea, and emphasizing tea's growing popularity, the Tea Council of the U.S.A., today named June "National Iced Tea Month." A uniquely American beverage, iced tea was created at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. Today, 127 million Americans, almost half the population, will drink tea. Record numbers of Americans are turning to iced tea as an all-natural thirst-quencher, drinking some 35 billion glasses of iced tea annually. Consumption of the refreshing brew has hit an all-time record of seven gallons per person. The Tea Council of the U.S.A., Inc., headquartered in New York, is a non-profit organization representing domestic and international companies and foreign governments whose business interests involve the growing, trading, processing or distribution of tea products.
