JUDGE DENIES CASTROL'S TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER REQUEST

JUDGE DENIES CASTROL'S TEMPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER REQUEST
HOUSTON, April 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennzoil Co. (NYSE: PZL) will continue with its advertising campaign as scheduled after New Jersey Federal District Court Judge Alfred M. Wolin denied a request by Castrol, a competing motor oil marketer, that Pennzoil's advertising be halted.
Pennzoil's current advertising campaign proclaims the fact that Pennzoil motor oil outperforms any leading motor oil against viscosity breakdown.
Robert Harper, spokesman for Pennzoil, said, "Pennzoil motor oil is America's top selling motor oil. Castrol's unfounded complaint will not stand up because Pennzoil's advertising is supported by extensive industry-recognized testing conducted internally and confirmed by two independent laboratories." He said that Pennzoil will further support its advertising program at a hearing scheduled for April 22.
Pennzoil motor oil is the nation's top selling motor oil and has held that lead position for a number of years. Pennzoil traces its roots back 100 years to the original oil discoveries that occurred in Pennsylvania in the 1800's. Castrol Inc. is owned by Burmah Castrol PLC of Swindon, England.
