JOY ENVIRONMENTAL WINS $28 MILLION ASH HANDLING SYSTEM CONTRACT

HOUSTON, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Joy Environmental Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Joy Technologies Inc. (NYSE: JOY), announced today the award from Taiwan Power Company (TPC) of a $28 million contract for the design, project management, procurement and selected component manufacturing of coal ash handling systems for units 5 through 8 at TPC's Taichung power station.
Brian J. Watt, president of Joy Environmental, stated, "We are extremely pleased that Joy Environmental was selected in an international competitive bidding process for what we believe is one of the largest ash handling contracts in the world. In addition to the previously completed coal ash handling systems and the wet scrubber project currently underway, both for units 1 through 4 at TPC's Taichung power station, this award is another example of Joy Environmental's growing role in Taiwan's extensive efforts to improve its air quality."
These ash handling systems will pump boiler ash, often termed "bottom" ash, to an ash disposal site, and convey fly ash, which is collected by separate particulate control systems, to storage silos and subsequently to the ash disposal site or to trucks for use in construction aggregate.
Joy Environmental will manage this and other regional projects from its recently established office in Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China.
