JOY AND BISCHOFF TO BE AWARDED U.S. $155 MILLION SCRUBBER CONTRACT

JOY AND BISCHOFF TO BE AWARDED U.S. $155 MILLION SCRUBBER CONTRACT
HOUSTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Joy Environmental Technologies, Inc., a Houston-based subsidiary of Joy Technologies Inc. (NYSE: JOY) announced today that Taiwan Power Corporation has declared that the utility will award to Joy Environmental and its partner, Gottfried Bischoff GmbH & Co., a U.S. $155 million contract for the installation of wet flue gas desulfurization systems on four, 550 megawatt coal-fired generator units at Taiwan Power's Taichung power station in Taiwan.
The wet flue gas desulfurization systems will employ the advanced Bischoff technology to remove over 90 percent of the sulfur dioxide emissions from combustion gases.
Joy Environmental's portion of the contract will exceed U.S. $100 million. The three-year project will be engineered and managed by Joy Environmental from its Houston headquarters.
Joy Environmental is also the exclusive North American licensee of the Bischoff technology and is presently installing the Bischoff wet flue gas desulfurization system on two, 500 megawatt units for Ontario-Hydro, North America's largest utility.
The Bischoff technology, developed in Germany where strict acid gas emission regulations have been in effect for over 10 years, is an advanced third-generation desulfurization process which combines high-performance efficiency, high reliability and low operating costs. The process also produces a marketable by-product, wallboard-quality gypsum, instead of the sludge produced by conventional processes. This feature solves many waste disposal problems which face other scrubber systems, and allows the waste product to be recycled into beneficial commercial uses.
Marc F. Wray, chairman and chief executive officer of Joy Technologies Inc., said, "We are extremely pleased that the Joy/Bischoff consortium has been selected over many other world-class competitors. We are delighted to have this opportunity to serve Taiwan Power in its environmental improvement programs. We look forward to providing them with innovative technologies and cost effective solutions in support of this project and future needs."
Joy Environmental Technologies, Inc., is a worldwide leader in pollution control technology providing solutions and equipment for the treatment and handling of gas, liquid and solids streams in support of power production, resource recovery and other industrial processes.
