 JOSEPH J. FITZSIMMONS ELECTED TO MEDSTAT BOARD OF DIRECTORS
 ANN ARBOR, Mich., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- MEDSTAT Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MDST) today announced that its board of directors elected Joseph J. Fitzsimmons as a member of the board. Fitzsimmons is the president and chief executive officer of University Microfilms International (UMI) headquartered in Ann Arbor, as well as corporate vice president of the Bell & Howell Company.
 Fitzsimmons began his career with UMI in 1966 and became president in 1985. Under his direction, UMI has doubled its revenues in the last five years, employing more than 1,000 people and has become known as a technological innovator in electronic retrieval for periodical literature. Fitzsimmons has frequently served as an adviser to government, including an appointment as the vice chairman of the White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services. Recently, Fitzsimmons was honored by the Information Industry Association for his leadership and involvement in government and community affairs.
 "With the addition of Mr. Fitzsimmons to our board, we are gaining an individual with significant managerial experience in growing an information company," said Ernest G.  Fitzsimmons holds a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University. He also serves on the board of directors for First of America Bank Corporation.
