JOSE S. SUQUET NAMED EQUITABLE EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT AND CHIEF AGENCY OFFICER

 NEW YORK, July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Jose S. Suquet has been named executive vice president and chief agency officer of The Equitable Life Assurance Society of the U.S. The announcement was made today by James M. Benson, Equitable Life's president and chief operating officer.
 In his position as chief agency officer, Mr. Suquet will be responsible for agency operations which includes management of the company's 90 nation-wide sales offices including Puerto Rico and their 8,200 career agents.
 Mr. Suquet will report to Mr. Benson. He will assume his responsibilities as chief agency officer as of August 1, 1994.
 Leading the Miami operation with sales offices in Hollywood and Fort Myers since 1985, Mr. Suquet, 38, has been consistently recognized within the company and industry as both an effective leader and manager. In each of the last eight years, his agency has won the company's prestigious President's Trophy Award, that measures overall profitability, productivity, and management effectiveness. The industry's General Agents and Managers Association ranks the Agency among the top 10 percent in the country, having won 7 consecutive Master Agency Awards.
 "Jose has distinguished himself as both a leader and developer of people. He is recognized throughout the industry for his innovation in new and continuing agent training and marketing programs.  Mr. Suquet has established a strong community presence for himself and The Equitable in South Florida. He currently is chair-elect for the Beacon Council; sits on the boards of South Florida Performing Arts Center Foundation, Florida International University Foundation, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce, and on the Steering Committee of the Summit of The Americas Conference; and is active in the United Way and Infants in Need, as well as other local Miami organizations.
 He attended Fordham University and earned a MBA from the University of Miami in 1990.
 He will reside in New York with his wife and two children.
