 TO TAKE EARLY RETIREMENT IN MID-1993
 PROVIDENCE, R.I., Aug. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- John W. Flynn, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Fleet Financial Group (NYSE: FLT), will take early retirement on June 30, 1993, it was announced today by Terrence Murray, chairman and chief executive officer.
 Flynn, 53, is responsible for the corporation's accounting and control, audit, capital markets, legal, public finance, public policy and treasury/money management functions. He is also chairman of Fleet Financial's assets and liability committee.
 "Jack Flynn has provided invaluable financial guidance for Fleet Financial Group and its subsidiaries during the most crucial 20 or so years of growth and consolidation in this company's 200-year history," Murray said. "We regret that he will no longer be an officer of the corporation after next June and we will certainly miss his many contributions. Jack's decision to retire early was his alone and, when the time comes, we will wish him well in his new endeavors."
 A graduate of Providence College, Flynn joined Fleet in 1969 as treasurer of Fleet Information, a data processing affiliate, and later became a vice president and controller of Fleet Bank-R.I. He had been controller of the corporation from 1976 to 1981 when he became corporate vice president and chief financial officer. He was named an executive vice president in 1986 and vice chairman in 1990. Previously, Flynn held accounting positions at Grumman Corp. and Ernst & Young.
 Fleet Financial Group is a $45-billion diversified financial services company listed on the New York Stock Exchange with approximately 1,300 offices nationwide. Its lines of business include commercial and consumer banking, mortgage banking, consumer finance, asset-based lending, investment management and student loan processing.
