JOHN V. MILANTONI TO RETIRE AS EQUITABLE GAS PRESIDENT

PITTSBURGH, Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- John V. Milantoni has announced his plans to retire as president of Equitable Gas Company effective Nov. 1, the company said today.
He will be succeeded by John W. Welch, the company's executive vice president.
Milantoni joined Equitable in 1959, and has served as its chief executive since 1988. In addition to his presidential duties, he has had a major role in advancing the market development of clean air technologies, both in Pittsburgh and across the country. His championing of natural gas as a clean alternative for powering vehicles, cooling and electric generating equipment has placed Pittsburgh in the vanguard of cities moving toward an environmentally sensitive use of energy. As chairman of the Executive Committee of the Natural Gas Vehicle Coalition, Milantoni has helped influence national policy and helped speed the commercialization of NGVs by original equipment manufacturers. Following his retirement, he will take an active role in steering coalition strategies to build further support for its initiatives.
Milantoni has also been prominent in the industry through his work with the American Gas Association and as a director and past chairman of the Pennsylvania Gas Association. His commitment to local causes includes the Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Private Industry Council, the Mon Valley Renaissance, the Leukemia Society of Pittsburgh, and the Boys and Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania.
A native of southwest Pennsylvania, Milantoni was born in Avella, Pa., and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in economics. He and his wife Nancy reside in Franklin Park, Pa.
