JOHN UTLEY ELECTED TO WALBRO CORPORATION BOARD

 CASS CITY, Mich., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- John Utley, chairman and chief executive officer, Kelsey-Hayes Company, has been elected to the board of directors of Walbro Corporation (NASDAQ-NMS: WALB). His election was announced by L.E. Althaver, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Walbro Corporation.
 "We are pleased to welcome John Utley to the Walbro board," Althaver said. "John's extensive, hands-on experience in the automotive industry, combined with his market-driven philosophy and global perspective, will strengthen the board of directors and further enhance its effectiveness."
 Utley holds a BS in industrial engineering from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Wayne State University. He is chairman of the board of directors of Hayes Wheels International, Inc. (NYSE: HAY). In addition, he serves on the board of Kelsey-Hayes de Mexico as well as other companies associated with the Kelsey-Hayes Group. Kelsey-Hayes is a subsidiary of Varity Corporation (NYSE: VAT).
 Utley has served in a variety of positions since joining Kelsey- Hayes in 1982, including vice president Sales and Marketing, president - Automotive Group, president and vice chairman before being named chairman and chief executive of the Kelsey-Hayes Company in 1992.
 Prior to joining Kelsey-Hayes, Utley spent 18 years with The Timken Company, ultimately serving as general manager - Sales - Automotive Group.
 Utley has been active in several professional organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers, serving as chairman of the SAE International Congress and Exposition in 1990. He also served as president of the Automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers Association in 1987, is a member of the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association, and serves on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Southeast Michigan, Detroit Area Council - Boy Scouts and American Red Cross - Southeastern Michigan Chapter.
 Utley and his wife, Francie, reside in Bloomfield Hills, Mich. They have three children.
