JOHN ROBSON, FORMER DEPUTY SECRETARY OF THE U.S. TREASURY & G.D. SEARLE PRESIDENT/CEO TO JOIN ROBERTSON, STEPHENS & COMPANY

 SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Robertson, Stephens & Company announced today that John E. Robson, former Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury in the Bush Administration and former president and chief executive officer of G.D. Searle & Co. from 1978 to 1985, will join the firm as senior advisor. Robson will focus on investment banking in the health care and technology fields.

"His experience as former CEO of a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, his work at Treasury managing both domestic and international issues, his merger and acquisition practice as a partner in a major law firm and his directorships in a variety of industries, including bio-tech, make him a valuable addition to our firm as we move forward."
 In Robson's distinguished career, he has reached the top echelons of business, government and academia. His corporate experience includes serving as chairman and chief executive officer of G.D. Searle & Co., a $1.4 billion pharmaceutical and consumer products company. He was also a partner and member of the Executive Committee of Sidley and Austin, one of the nation's largest law firms, managing a business and finance portfolio.
 At Treasury, Robson served as the second ranking official, participating in all key policy and management decisions in the 165,000 person agency.
 After leaving the Treasury Department in January 1993, Robson became a Visiting Fellow at The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., taught at the Yale University School of Organization and Management, and served on the blue ribbon National Commission to Ensure a Strong Competitive Airline Industry established by President Clinton and Congress. He will continue an affiliation with The Heritage Foundation as a visiting fellow.
 In addition to the Treasury Department and recent airline commission, his government service includes three other presidential appointments: Chairman of the Civil Aeronautics Board, where he initiated the deregulation of the airline industry; Under Secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation; and General Counsel of that same department.
 Robson also has served as Dean of Emory University's School of Business Administration. He graduated from Yale University (BA) and Harvard University School of Law (JD).
 He served in the United States Army.
