JOHN RATZENBERGER (CLIFF CLAVIN OF 'CHEERS') SELLS HIS
'ENVIRONMENTALLY RESPONSIBLE' PACKAGING COMPANY TO RANPAK
KENT, Wash., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin of NBC's "Cheers") said today that he sold his "environmentally responsible" packaging company, Eco-Pack, Kent, Wash., to Ranpak Corp. as part of its strategy to create a major new presence in the packaging industry. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.
"By joining forces with Ranpak," Ratzenberger said, "We add the considerable corporate resources and international marketing capability of Ranpak to our own. Together, we can bring our combined product line to manufacturers and other users across the country and, shortly, around the world."
In addition to its plant in Kent, Washington, for example, Eco-Pack now will add manufacturing capability at Ranpak's Ohio plant for Quadra- Pak along with the newly introduced Sizzle-Pak (See Note), a lightweight designer material made in a wide range of colors for gift boxes and baskets.
"We're delighted to be joining forces with Eco-Pack, producer of the Quadra-Pak (See Note) cushioning material that complements our Padpak (See Note) cushioning system," said Steven E. Armington, president of Ranpak. "Acceptance of Eco-pack's Quadra-Pak loosefill came so quickly that the company has tripled production since it was introduced in October, 1989.
"John's well-known position on environmental issues has helped create this awareness," Armington added. "We look forward to working with John to help deliver the message that packaging can and should be environmentally responsible."
Ranpak produces its unique, paper-based packaging system for inside- the-box cushioning from plants in Ohio, Washington and in Holland. The Padpak system from Ranpak uses tri-ply recycled paper that passes through a converter to become a protective packaging pad.
Ranpak was among the first packaging companies to be certified in full compliance with the new German environmental packaging laws -- considered the world's most rigorous.
Ranpak, a privately held company headquartered in Concord Township, Ohio, was organized in 1979.
