 JOHN R. MYERS NAMED THIOKOL PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
 OGDEN, Utah, June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Thiokol Corp. (NYSE: TKC) has named John R. Myers, president and chief operating officer, effective July 6, 1992. Myers will report to Thiokol Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, U. Edwin Garrison. All of Thiokol's operating divisions will report directly to Myers.
 Myers comes to Thiokol from his position as president of the Lycoming Division of Textron Inc. Lycoming is the second largest operating company of Textron with sales of $1 billion and an employment of 6,000. His responsibilities included the manufacturing management of small turbine and piston engines for general aviation, commercial aviation, military/commercial helicopters, landing craft, and main battle tanks. This product mix was approximately 60 percent military and 40 percent commercial.
 Myers began his career with the General Electric Co. in 1960, holding various manufacturing positions primarily in the Aircraft Engine Group. Upon leaving General Electric in 1978, he was named vice president and general manager of the Nuclear Medicine Division of the Technicare Co., a position he held for two years.
 "John Myers' strong experience and background in both manufacturing and diversification will benefit Thiokol's operating businesses. His knowledge of quality will complement Thiokol's strong thrust in the area of Total Quality Management," stated Garrison. "We look to him to bring additional strength to Thiokol's management team."
 Myers graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1960 with a bachelor of science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is active in many outside activities including: past chairman of the American Defense Preparedness Association, The Presidents Association of the American Management Association, and various aviation societies. He was named winner of the Silver Knight of Management Award for leadership in business, industry, and community affairs. Myers and his wife Brenda, expect to move to the Ogden area from Connecticut in the near future.
 Thiokol is a Utah-based corporation publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. The company is a leader in high-technology solid rocket motors for
space and defense, and a manufacturer of military ordnance. Huck International Inc., a wholly owned Thiokol subsidiary, supplies fastening systems for the aerospace and transportation industries.
