JOHN PENHOLLOW JOINS BOWNE & CO., INC.
NEW YORK, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- John Penhollow, director of the office of EDGAR Management at the Securities and Exchange Commission for five years, will join Bowne & Co., Inc. (AMEX: BNE) on February 8 as Bowne's director of EDGAR Services. Mr. Penhollow, who led the EDGAR development team at the SEC, will oversee delivery of all Bowne EDGAR services to the filing community. The SEC has scheduled April 1993 as the start of mandatory electronic filing on EDGAR, its Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval system. By the end of the year, 2,500 of the largest corporations and 800 investment management companies are expected to be using EDGAR to file all of their SEC compliance documentation. All filers are to be phased in by mid-1996. Bowne was the first public company to register as an EDGAR filer in the Pilot Program in 1984 and the first to make a live filing on the EDGAR Operational System in 1992. During that time it has developed a broad range of EDGAR services now being offered to both large and small filers. Bowne has also configured its GeoLink(R) satellite and computer network to provide direct and immediate access to the SEC EDGAR system from each of its offices throughout North America and overseas. In announcing Mr. Penhollow's move to Bowne, Richard H. Koontz, Chairman and President of Bowne & Co., Inc. said, "We are very pleased to have John at the head of our EDGAR team. At the SEC, John worked long and hard developing EDGAR to make it responsive to the needs of filers, the SEC and the investing public. At Bowne, he'll be in a position to help filers directly in their transition to electronic filing." John, and his wife, Yvonne, will relocate from Gaithersburg, Md. to New Jersey later this year, and John will work out of Bowne's New York City offices. In the interim he will be located at the Bowne office in Washington. "I'm proud of the progress the SEC has made with EDGAR in the years I've been there," said Mr. Penhollow. "I look forward to working directly with filers to help them learn this new filing method." Bowne & Co., Inc., founded in 1775, is the world's largest financial printer.
