JOHN N. LAUER TO RECEIVE 1993 DISTINGUISHED ENGINEERING ALUMNUS AWARD FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT COLLEGE PARK

 COLLEGE PARK, Md., June 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington native John N. Lauer will receive the prestigious Distinguished Engineering Alumnus Award from the University of Maryland at College Park during a special ceremony today.
 Lauer, who graduated from the university in 1963, is president and chief operating officer of The BFGoodrich Company. He joined BFGoodrich in 1989 as executive vice president. He is a current member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Maryland at College Park's College of Engineering.
 Lauer was selected to win the award for his outstanding leadership and innovation in the specialty chemicals and plastics industries. He has extensive experience in these industries and in international business. He currently is helping to develop and implement plans to aggressively expand the company's specialty chemicals and aerospace businesses. He additionally is focusing on investments for BFGoodrich businesses internationally while working to maintain and further strengthen the company's leadership in development of new product and process technologies, and to achieve excellence in environmental performance.
 In addition to his Goodrich responsibilities, Lauer is a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. He is a member of the board of directors of Diebold, Inc., DTM Corp., The Geon Company, the Cleveland Opera Association, the Visiting Nurses Association of Cleveland, the Akron Art Museum and is a member of the Leadership Cleveland class of 1989. Lauer also serves on the CEO Council of the Chemical Industry Institute of Toxicology, and is a member of the board of directors of the Chemical Manufacturers Association and the American Plastics Council.
