 JOHN J. CACHIANES ELECTED AN IBM VICE PRESIDENT
 ARMONK, N.Y., April 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The IBM (NYSE: IBM) board of


directors has elected John J. Cachianes an IBM vice president. Cachianes is directeur general des plans et des services techniques, IBM Europe, and a member of the IBM Europe Executive Office Committee.
 Cachianes joined IBM in 1966 at the company's Research Division in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. He later held financial positions with the Data Processing Products Group and Federal Systems Division. In 1979, he was named manager of budgets at IBM's corporate headquarters in Armonk, N.Y.
 In 1980, Cachianes was named controller of the Data System Division, and in February 1984 he was elected controller of IBM's World Trade Americas/Far East Corporation. In September 1984, Cachianes was named vice president, plans and controls, National Accounts Division, and two years later he was named group director, market development operations, Information Systems Group. In January 1988, Cachianes was named assistant group executive, finance and planning, Information Systems Group. He was elected vice president and assistant general manager, finance and technical operations, IBM Latin America, in December 1988. The following year, he was named assistant general manager, finance and planning, IBM Networking Systems. Cachianes was named to his current position in March of this year.
