 GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- John C. Suerth, a resident of The Glenview, Naples, Fla., died Sunday, Jan. 9, at the age of 80, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Chicago. He graduated from Carl Schurs High School and the University of Illinois.
 An accomplished business career included the Presidency, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Gerber Products Company, Fremont, Mich., for 17 years.
 He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Hershey Foods, Consumers Power Company, Kysor Industrial Corporation, Fremont Mutual Insurance Company, Guardsman Products, Inc., Old Kent Financial Corporation, SPX Corporation, Oliver Equipment Company, National Bank of Detroit, Fremont Bank & Trust Company and Ramshorn Country Club.
 He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, two daughters, Johnna McWeeny of Toledo, Ohio, Merry Krzemienski of Sturgis, Mich., and a son, Jeffrey Suerth of Grand Rapids, and nine grandchildren.
 He was a member of the United Church of Christ of Fremont and of Naples, Ramshorn Country Club of Fremont, Royal Poinciana of Naples, Kinnee Creek Sportsman's Club of Baldwin, Mich., a board member of both The Conservancy of Naples and The Forum Club of Naples.
 For 30 years he was active in the Timber Trails Boy Scouts of America Council.
 In addition to his love for his family, friends and business, he was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.
 A memorial service will be held at the United Church of Christ, Naples, on Saturday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m.
 The family requests that remembrances be given to The Hospice or Conservancy of Naples or the Fremont Michigan Public Library.
 A memorial service will be scheduled in Fremont during the spring of this year.
