JOHN ARLIDGE RETIRES FROM NEVADA POWER

 LAS VEGAS, Dec. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- John W. Arlidge, senior vice president government affairs, will retire from Nevada Power Company (NYSE: NVP) effective Jan. 1, 1993.
 Arlidge has accepted an advisory position through the U.S. State Department on energy matters to the country of Poland. Arlidge will reside in Warsaw in his new duties.
 Arlidge began his career with Nevada Power Jan. 28, 1974, as assistant to Vice President John Gibbs. He was later promoted to vice president resource planning and energy dispatch in May 1982 and to his present position in February 1989.
 Prior to his employment with Nevada Power, Arlidge was employed by the Department of Water and Power, City of Los Angeles. He graduated from Los Angeles State College with a degree in electrical engineering.
 Chairman of the Board Charles A. Lenzie said that Arlidge's unique talents have been a valuable part of the company's management team over his 19-year career with Nevada Power and he will be an asset to future energy development in Poland.
