JOBS: Adult learning On the road to success; Centre helps mum get a job.

Byline: Michelle Rushton

AYOUNG Kensington mother of two is celebrating after achieving a string of qualifications -- and her first job for two years.

Sarah Weston, 24, attributes her success to the support and friendship of tutors at Kensington Community Learning Centre (KCLC), where she began a year ago with an introductory computer course and then progressed to gain six qualifications, including the Level 2 CLAIT Plus award.

A couple of months ago she won a training placement with Stanley Community Enterprises -- she has just started a permanent job, as an administrator with ELECT.

``I was shocked and ecstatic when I was told I had got the job. I really didn't expect it and I am now on a high, '' said Sarah.

``It is only through Kensington Community Learning Centre that I got the job. It made all the difference coming here -- not just for the training but also the support in helping me find job vacancies and putting me in touch with JET Eastern Link, who gave me help with interview techniques and filling in application forms. ''

Sarah was presented with an Adult Learners Award, celebrating her personal achievement and for being an inspiration to others.

More than 51 other Kensington residents were presented with Merseyside Open College Network qualifications at an awards ceremony for courses completed during the centre's winter term.

KCLC, based on Kensington, Liverpool, opposite McDonalds, is currently undertaking a significant expansion. New courses include digital photo and video editing, DJ and dance music and Dreamweaver.

Workshops are also being planned in Photoshop for photographers, web designers and artists, and digital imaging.
