JESSICA ENNIS-HILL admits she has her work cut out to reign again over Britain - never mind the world.

The Olympic champion ends two years out of competition at the Great City Games today in Manchester, where she runs the 100metre hurdles.

Watching will be not only 10-month-old son Reggie but Katarina Johnson-Thompson who, in her absence, has taken her No.1 status as a multieventer.

The pair met yesterday for the first time since Ennis-Hill stepped out of the spotlight in 2013 and the 29-year-old admitted: "I'm going to have to raise my game."

To which Johnson-Thompson, 22, who goes in the 200m hurdles, blushed: "I'm fully expecting s, ng you to come back and take your (No.1) place."

She meant it too, such is the respect the girl who would be queen has for the monarch of her sport.

On this one though Ennis-Hill is right. She must win the battle of Britain before she can hope to conquer the world again - and that amounts to the same thing.

"Having a domestic rivalry with Kat will definitely be an inspiration to me," said the Sheffield star. "We're in totally different parts of our careers.

"Our motivations, inspirations and focuses are totally different.

"But we're both very hungry, both fierce competitors.

"Neither of us would step out of the way so the other could go ahead.

"I'll always be competitive, I wouldn't be here if I wasn't."

Ennis-Hill only returned to training six months ago.

Her goal is next year's Rio Olympics. This afternoon is but the first stepping stone. Only if it goes well will she confirm her entry into the Gotzis heptathlon.
