JERRY J. SCHWEINER APPOINTED PRESIDENT OF SNAPPER POWER EQUIPMENT

ATLANTA, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Actava Group (NYSE: ACT), formerly Fuqua Industries, announced that Jerry J. Schweiner was appointed president and chief executive officer of Snapper Power Equipment.
Effective immediately, Schweiner succeeds Kraig W. Kramers who has been Snapper's president since November 1991. Kramers resigned to pursue other business interests.
Schweiner brings to Snapper strong leadership abilities and a wealth of knowledge of the manufacturing business. He has served in senior manufacturing positions with The John Deere Company and Simplicity Manufacturing Co. In addition, he served as president of The Industry Products Division of Allegheny International from 1973 to 1984. In 1984 Schweiner became the owner/president of Air Devices Corp., based in Huntsville, Ala., and most recently he served as an equity investor and management consultant to Benco Industries.
Charles R. Scott, president and chief executive officer of Actava, said: "We are very fortunate to have attracted a leader of Jerry Schweiner's caliber. Jerry has shown the ability to grasp quickly the needs of companies operating in a wide variety of industries and has exhibited the leadership skills necessary to match the demands of manufacturing and marketing." Scott added, "When you consider that Snapper is one of the best known manufacturing and marketing companies in the United States, Schweiner's past experiences fit our requirements perfectly." Snapper manufactures and markets premium quality lawn care and garden products including rear-engine riding lawnmowers, lawn tractors, and walk-behind mowers. In addition to its mowers, Snapper sells fertilizers, snowthrowing equipment, commercial tillers and related parts and accessories.
Schweiner is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and received his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He presently resides in Montgomery, Ala., and will be moving to the Atlanta area immediately.
Scott continued: "We wish Kraig Kramers all the best in his new endeavors. He guided Snapper through some difficult times."
In addition to Snapper, The Actava Group has five companies engaged in the broader leisure industry: DP(R) (fitness and recreation equipment); Qualex (photofinishing), a joint venture with Eastman Kodak; Hutch Sports USA (sporting goods and equipment); Nelson/Weather-Rite (camping and outdoor products); and Willow Hosiery (athletic and family hosiery).
