JERRY C. MARTIN JOINS GLOBAL MARINE BOARD; JAMES L. McCULLOCH PROMOTED TO VICE PRESIDENT AND GENERAL COUNSEL

HOUSTON, May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Stockholders of Global Marine Inc. (NYSE: GLM), at the annual meeting, elected Jerry C. Martin to the board of directors. In addition, the board of directors named James L. McCulloch vice president and general counsel.
Mr. Martin, who will be serving his first term as a director of the company, has been the senior vice president and chief financial officer of Global Marine Inc. since 1985, prior to which he was an officer of the company's largest operating subsidiary. Mr. McCulloch, who joined the company in 1983, has been vice president, litigation and risk management since 1989.
 C. Russell Luigs, Global Marine's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said, "Global Marine has benefited greatly from Jerry Martin's judgment and experience since he joined the company in 1979. As a primary architect of the company's recent recapitalization, Jerry is largely responsible for the company's renewed financial strength. He brings to the board considerable skills and an outstanding record of achievement."
Mr. Luigs continued, "Jim McCulloch has also been a key contributor to Global Marine's success in recent years. In particular, the beneficial outcome of certain take-or-pay lawsuits, in which he took the leading role, enabled the company to weather a very difficult period. Jim is uniquely qualified to handle his new and expanded responsibilities as vice president and general counsel."
Houston-based Global Marine is one of the industry's largest international offshore drilling contractors, offers turnkey drilling services, and has interests in oil and gas production.
