JEROME T. FADDEN NAMED TREASURER OF THE TRAVELERS INC.; FIROZ B. TARAPORE PROMOTED TO DEPUTY TREASURER

 NEW YORK, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Jerome T. Fadden has been named Treasurer of The Travelers Inc. (NYSE: TRV), the company announced today.
 Mr. Fadden joined Primerica Corporation, the predecessor company of The Travelers, in 1990. For the past two years, he has been a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Gulf Insurance Group, a Dallas-based property and casualty insurance subsidiary. Prior to that he had been a Vice President, overseeing the parent company's Finance Group.
 He replaces Jay Fishman who had been appointed Chief Financial Officer of one of the company's subsidiaries, Travelers Insurance Companies, and remains a Senior Vice President of the parent company.
 James Dimon, President and Chief Operating Officer of The Travelers, said, "Jerry brings a broad base of experience on the corporate as well as subsidiary level to the Treasury function. He has the talent, knowledge and creativity we will need going forward into the next phase of our company's growth."
 Mr. Fadden, 36, began his career in 1980 with The Chase Manhattan Bank. He joined the investment banking division of Shearson Lehman Brothers in 1985 in their Merchant Banking Group and later served as a Vice President in Mergers and Acquisitions. He is a graduate of Stanford University and has an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He resides in New Canaan, Conn., with his wife and two children.
 In a related move, Firoz B. Tarapore, Assistant Treasurer, has been promoted to Deputy Treasurer, where he will assume an increased level of responsibility for the overall management of Treasury activities. Mr. Tarapore joined a predecessor company, American Can Company, in 1985 and has progressed through various positions within the Treasury Department. A graduate of the University of Bombay, he has an MBA from The Wharton School.
 The Travelers Inc. is one of the country's largest diversified financial services companies, formed by the acquisition in December 1993 by Primerica Corporation of the Travelers Corporation, a Hartford-based multi-line insurance company. The Travelers is now engaged in investment services and consumer finance, as well as a broad range of life and property and casualty insurance services.
