 JEROME J. 'JAY' DONOVAN, MERRILL LYNCH EXECUTIVE,
 DISTRICT DIRECTOR FOR NEW JERSEY, DIES AT AGE 51
 NEW YORK, Dec. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Jerome J. "Jay" Donovan, New Jersey District director for Merrill Lynch's Private Client Group and former Metropolitan Regional director, died of cancer Saturday at the Medical Center at Princeton, in Princeton, N.J. He was 51.
 A 21-year Merrill Lynch veteran, Donovan held a number of executive positions in the firm, including director of training and Mideast Regional director.
 From 1985 to 1990, Donovan served as Metropolitan Regional director, supervising the retail branch office system in New York City, Northern New Jersey and Long Island.
 "Jay leaves a legacy of leadership, excellence and dedication to the greater good of Merrill Lynch -- its clients and his fellow employees," said William A. Schreyer, chairman and chief executive officer.
 "As a manager and a friend, he will long be remembered for his extraordinary professionalism, sense of humor, personal warmth and many lasting contributions to our firm," added Daniel P. Tully, president and chief operating officer.
 Donovan joined Merrill Lynch as an account executive in 1970 when the firm acquired Goodbody & Co. He subsequently attended Merrill Lynch's management training program and, in 1974, became sales manager of the Houston office. In 1976, he was named manager of the Shreveport, La., office and in 1979 became manager of the Merrill Lynch office in Indianapolis.
 In 1982, he was named training director for Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith. He served as Mideast Regional director from 1983 to 1985 and as Metropolitan Regional director from 1985 to 1990. He most recently held the position of New Jersey District director for the Private Client Group.
 Donovan was born in Boston on April 10, 1940, and graduated from Boston College in 1963. He was a member of the Wall Street Council for Boston College and the Boston College Alumni Association.
 He is survived by his wife, Marolyn, and their four children, Kelly, Keithi?n and Kathleen.
