 JEFFERSON-PILOT RECEIVES FAVORABLE RULING FROM
 NORTH CAROLINA COURT OF APPEALS
GREENSBORO, N.C., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Jefferson-Pilot Corporation (NYSE: JP) today announced that it received a favorable ruling from the North Carolina Court of Appeals in its appeal of an order entered by the Guilford County Superior Court in July, 1991.
The appeals court reversed the lower court, ruling that Jefferson- Pilot does not have to provide accounting records or certain other records sought by Louise Price Parsons in her suit against Jefferson- Pilot.
The court expressly rejected Parsons' argument that she had common law rights to inspect corporate records. The court further ruled that the trial court can impose sanctions on the plaintiff for filing a frivolous action, and remanded to the trial court for that determination.
