JEFFERSON-PILOT NAMES INVESTMENTS HEAD

 GREENSBORO, N.C., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- E. Jay Yelton, Ph.D., is joining Jefferson-Pilot as executive vice president-investments of Jefferson-Pilot Life Insurance Company and senior vice president- investments of Jefferson-Pilot Corporation (NYSE: JP). Dr. Yelton will be responsible for all company and corporate investments. He will also serve on the company's management committee.
 Jefferson-Pilot CEO David Stonecipher commenting on Yelton's appointment, stated: "Jay brings broad experience in the management of diversified investment portfolios, first for the state of Florida, and then at The Investment Centre where he managed investments for seven very diverse companies in the U.S. and Canada. His experience covers markets and products we are currently in as well as others.
 "With the addition of Jay to Jefferson-Pilot's management committee," Stonecipher said, "we have made the final addition to our senior management team. We are pleased with the outstanding caliber of individuals who are serving on this team, and now look forward to focusing on moving Jefferson-Pilot forward."
 Yelton, 54, holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics (cum laude) from the University of Florida, where he later earned both his master's degree in business administration and Ph.D. in economics.
 Most recently, Yelton served as president and CEO of Internationale Nederlanden North America Investment Centre, Inc., an Atlanta-based asset management company with responsibility for the $7.8 billion investment program of Internationale Nederlanden Group's North American holdings. He had previously been associated with the Florida State Board of Administration, where he served as executive director of a $20 billion investment program which included the Florida Retirement System. Prior to that time, he had served as assistant plant controller for the Proctor and Gamble Company; chief economist, State of Florida; and director of the Florida State Treasury Division.
 A native of Kentucky, he is married to the former Susan Wallick of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He has two children and two grandchildren.
