JEFFERSON-PILOT CORP. CHAIRMAN SAYS HE WILL NOT RENEW HIS CONTRACT
GREENSBORO, N.C., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Jefferson-Pilot Corporation (NYSE: JP) Chairman and CEO W. Roger Soles has confirmed in several recent interviews that he will not renew his contract with the company at year end to continue to serve in those posts. As he has in the past, Soles indicated that he would be willing to continue to serve after that date at the pleasure of the Board, in whatever capacity the Board feels is necessary. Soles also indicated that he expects his successor to be named this fall. The company has had in place for some time a process for choosing Soles' successor. According to Soles, his decision not to seek renewal of his contract was in no way prompted by the litigation and proxy contest being conducted against the company and its current Board of Directors by Louise Price Parsons and the Jefferson-Pilot Shareholders Committee.
