 JEEP TO SELL MERCHANDISE IN JAPAN
 HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Japanese consumers


already can drive around in a Jeep(R) vehicle, but shortly they will be able to wear, carry, flick and brush on all types of Jeep merchandise.
 Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) and J. Osawa & Co. Ltd. have signed a five-year licensing agreement to distribute Jeep clothing, luggage, bags, watches, cosmetics and accessories in Japan. Through a sub- distribution agreement, Yamaki Co., Ltd. will sell men's casual apparel in the fall of 1992. C. Itoh Apparel Co., Ltd. will distribute pajamas, socks and caps.
 Keisuke Egashira, J. Osawa president, said J. Osawa was attracted to the brand image of Jeep, which represents "adventure, freedom, frontier spirit and American tradition."
 J. Osawa is planning to develop a casual line of Jeep clothing for men, women and children, pajamas, socks, handkerchiefs, caps, belts, leather accessories, shoes, watches and other related products. The products will be sold through department stores, specialty stores and superstores, "to maintain the prestigious image of Jeep," Egashira said. Tokyo, Chukyo and Kansai are the initial target markets.
 J. Osawa has a distribution agreement to sell Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler Imperial and Chrysler New Yorker Landau in Japan. In addition, the trading company has licensing agreements with premium- brand manufacturers of clothing, sporting equipment, wine, liquor and food, communications equipment, watches and tableware.
