JCPENNEY TO FORM MEXICAN IMPORT/EXPORT UNIT

 PLANO, Texas, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- J.C. Penney Company, Inc. announced today it will establish an import/export trading branch in Mexico City next month to serve its planned stores in Mexico and its retail and catalog operations in the United States.
 Kenneth T. Russo, vice president and director of international sourcing, announced the new operation, named JCPenney Mexican Trading Company (formally: JCPenney Comercializadora S.A. de C.V.,) along with the company's staffing. The new company will purchase merchandise for JCPenney's Mexican stores (the first of seven announced stores will open in early 1995); develop sources for the manufacture and importation of merchandise into the United States, and identify established Mexican brands of merchandise that have potential for JCPenney stores and catalog in the U. S.
 Five buyers have been assigned to the new operation, reporting to Charles Lipscomb, manager of international sourcing. Opening Feb. 1, JCPenney Mexican Trading Company (JCPenney Comercializadora S.A. de C.V.) will be located in the IBM de Mexico building, at Av. Insugentes Sur, No. 1787, Col. Guadalupe Inn, 01020 Mexico City.
